Relax and catch your dinner or dive into life

Fancy a spot of fishing or diving? You can be very confident of catching some of the finest eating fish in the world. The Mackerel Islands are just 22 kilometres off the shore from Onslow.

Escape to the Mackerel Islands

Thevenard Island offers 11 fully-equipped cabins plus the 30-room Club Thevenard accommodation village, along with some of the best fishing and diving spots in Australia... it's something not to be missed while in Onslow.

Pilbara Region

Onslow is just part of the age-old Pilbara Region of North Western Australia. The town's relaxed coastal lifestyle provides an idea stop for travellers wanting to rest and play. For those choosing to explore the inland Hamersley Ranges and National Parks, the Onlsow Mackerel Motel provides a welcome and friendly coastal oasis.

Whether you plan to explore the magnificent Pilbara region or head out to the islands, the town of Onslow will be your jumping off point. This sleepy coastal town is ideal for a stopover.

An Aquatic Playground off the Coral Coast

Off shore from Onslow, the coral reefs around the Mackerel and Monte Bello Islands are truly special... So you can imagine the abundance of different fish species. For the adventurous divers, some of the most unique dive sites are located in these waters.

The Mackerel Islands are a summer breeding ground for the Flat Back and Green Turtles that inhabit the surrounding waters. They can be seen laying eggs on the beaches from around mid-October and baby turtles can be seen hatching and making their way to the water's edge from around Christmas, right through until March or April.
